Coming up with an effective way to style distressed denim can be quite... 'stressful'. All sorts of questions come to mind:

Should they have rips all over?

Should they just have slashes at the knee?

How do I dress these up?

Like I said, shopping for your shredded blues can be tough however it really helps to understand what you need your denim for. Is this a wardrobe staple? Is this something that's completing a specific look? Understanding what you're looking for from your clothes makes it a lot easier when shopping.

Below are a few tips to help you find the perfect pair of distressed denim:

1.  Try one multiple brands and styles.

Finding the right garment is like going to the gym - It takes time and dedication but if you invest these things it can be very rewarding.

2. Always bring a trusted friend

The extra set of eyes serves as an honest, talking mirror. It also makes the experience go by quicker making it easier to be more thorough.

3. Value Versatility

The best pieces of any wardrobe are the pieces that can be worn casually, or in dressier situations. A good pair of denim is versatile enough to be paired with light sweaters for a casual look, or a silk blouse and pretty pumps for cocktail hour.

4.  A little stretch goes a long way.

I always buy my jeans with a little give - you need to be able to zip them up and breathe comfortably. Sometimes it's tempting to buy something that's a bit snug because it looks good but it's important to FEEL good in what you wear too. Putting pants on shouldn't be a battle and nobody likes stuffing unless we're talking about the holidays.
